Art Journal Page & A Birthday Card

Hi everyone, how are you on this Monday evening?  I am sitting here trying to enjoy a little quiet time but my boys are fooling around next to me, being silly and making a lot of noise.  Okay, so here is how it really is going, hubby is watching the little guy trying to get the best of him and then picks him up at the last moment and tickles or does something silly to my son and then loud noises and giggling commences.  Not to mention the energy level of my son is increasing instead of decreasing and it is almost bedtime.  I tell ya if I didn't absolutely LOVE watching the two of them play I might be going a little bit crazy right now.  They both hold such a large piece of my heart that I wouldn't stay upset for long anyway!:)

Tonight I am posting another page I added to my art journal recently.  I am really LOVING trying to come up with ideas for these pages but I am so intimidated at how many amazing artists there are creating absolutely amazing art journals.  I feel so like so much more of me is exposed when I do these personal journal pages and they just don't measure up to what is out there.  Now, I don't know what I am comparing my pages to since it is my own personal feelings, art and journaling I am doing, but that's just how I am.  I always feel like I have to try and measure up to something or someone better than I am.

This first picture is of the pages before I added any titles, wording or background.  I drew the flowers coming off the edge of the page and I liked the way they came out.  My last page had the marker on the words run a little as I added more layers and I wanted to get a picture of this part before there was any possibility of that happening.  Thankfully it didn't happen anyway and so the end picture is pretty good.  I do feel I have made a little improvement from the first page I posted, even if it is just the lack running of the markers.

I used watercolor on the background and on the flowers as well.  I tried to add shading with the watercolor paints but as this was the first time I had tried it I thought it came out okay, but not great.  For the next part of the journal I added words from my favorite Bible verse, Corinthians 13, Love is Patient......

I used a flower stamp from the SU set, Fifth Avenue Floral to make the border on the page.  I used a Cheery Lynn stacking flower die to create the flower in the corner.  I added some liquid varnish to the top of the flower to stiffen it up and help it keep it's shape on its own.  The flourishes are a  Magnolia Doohickey die and I decoupaged them to the page.

Last week my nephew turned 13 and since I felt like I was on a roll with creating my own projects I decided to do a little drawing for his card.  It's clean and simple but what do you make for a teenage boy?  The wording and border are my own and I created them just for this card.

Thanks so much for stopping by today,

  1. I too am new to art journaling and admire you for sharing as you grow more confident in your work. I think this page is great! I haven't used my watercolors in my journal yet. I've been using a lot of Dylusions ink sprays. I look forward to seeing more of your journal pages:)

  2. Oops! I just saw the date on this so I guess I'm a little

I LOVE to hear from you! Comments are welcomed and appreciated!
